Governor Mike Parson of Missouri recently provided an update on the deployment of Missouri personnel to the Southern Border in Texas as part of Governor Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star mission. Governor Parson expressed his gratitude towards the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) troopers and Missouri National Guard (MONG) members for their efforts in addressing the crisis at the border.

"Missourians understand there is a crisis at our Southern Border and that it's not just impacting the State of Texas. It seems like every week we are hearing of more and more fentanyl deaths and drug trafficking instances that are ripping Missouri families and communities apart. It stems from the chaos at our Southern Border, and it must stop," Governor Parson stated. "While President Biden and the federal government fail to do anything, we're proud the State of Missouri is doing something. We extend our sincere thanks to our MSHP troopers and MONG service members for their efforts in addressing this crisis. Missouri stands with Texas, and we are taking action."

Governor Parson had issued Executive Order 24-03 on February 20, 2024, activating up to 200 MONG members and 22 MSHP troopers to support Operation Lone Star on the Southern Border. Recent polling by Saint Louis University and YouGov revealed that 75 percent of Missourians believe there is a crisis at the United States-Mexico Border that should be addressed immediately, reflecting Governor Parson's concerns and actions.

The MSHP troopers deployed to southern Texas have been actively assisting the Texas Department of Public Safety in various law enforcement activities at the U.S. border. They have been involved in numerous incidents, including traffic stops, undocumented migrant encounters, turn-backs, impaired driver and drug arrests, and other law enforcement assistance. The Missouri troopers also provided support during a fatal National Guard helicopter crash and attended the funeral of Border Patrol Agent Chris Luna.

On the other hand, the MONG service members, totaling 48 soldiers, have been deployed to support border security efforts by assisting in the construction of physical barriers, manning observation posts, and supporting security patrols at the Southern Border.

The collaboration between Missouri and Texas in addressing the crisis at the Southern Border highlights the commitment of both states in tackling issues related to illegal migration and drug trafficking. Governor Parson's proactive approach and the dedication of the deployed personnel demonstrate a unified effort to enhance border security and protect communities.
