The Kansas City Council has given the green light to the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund Board’s decision to award $3,755,342 to 199 events for the 2024-2025 Annual Application Cycle. This funding aims to boost Kansas City’s vibrant neighborhoods and tourism.

City Manager Brian Platt emphasized the importance of supporting neighborhood events, stating, “Building strong communities starts with supporting neighborhood events. When we come together to celebrate our local culture and diversity, we create bonds that make our city thrive.”

The 2024-2025 Annual Application Cycle represents the program’s largest number of awardees and funding allocation. Among the recipients of the NTDF awards are organizations such as Black Archives of Mid-America in Kansas City, Guadalupe Centers, Kansas City Women’s Chorus, Kansas City Pride Community Alliance, Hispanic Economic Development Corporation, and many others.

The Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF) program aims to assist non-profit organizations in promoting Kansas City’s distinct and diverse neighborhoods through various cultural, social, ethnic, historic, educational, and recreational activities. Eligible projects must be located within Kansas City limits and be accessible to both KCMO residents and tourists. These projects encompass a wide range of activities including festivals, rodeos, sports tournaments, concerts, movies in the park, home tours, exhibits, parades, and races/runs.

This year’s allocation of $3.7 million for events underscores the commitment to fostering community engagement and showcasing the rich tapestry of Kansas City’s neighborhoods.
